Quick Start - eSIM Guide

How do I know if my iOS device supports eSIM?

Whether a device supports eSIM mainly depends on whether the manufacturer has included this feature in the device. However, some countries and regions may release device versions that do not support eSIM. Additionally, even if the device itself supports eSIM, the carrier you purchased it from might not have enabled this feature.

Want to know if your iOS device supports eSIM? You can check by following these steps. But keep in mind, these methods may vary by device and might not always apply. The safest bet is to consult the device manufacturer, your carrier, or the supplier directly.

For iPhone devices:

  1. Open the Settings app, then tap on General.
  2. Tap on About.
  3. Tap on Model until it shows an Axxxx combination.
  4. Confirm that your iPhone model is not from the China region. You can find this information at this link.

If your iPhone model is not from Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau, then your device should be compatible with eSIM. Currently, iPhones sold in Mainland China do not support eSIM. Next, follow these steps to find out whether your iPhone is carrier-locked or unlocked.

  1. Open the Settings app, then tap on General.
  2. Tap on About.
  3. Scroll down and look for the Carrier Lock field. If it says No SIM Restrictions next to Carrier Lock, that means your iPhone is unlocked.

For iPad devices:

  1. Open the Settings app, then tap on General.
  2. Tap on About.
  3. Tap on Model until it displays an Axxxx combination.
  4. Confirm that your iPad model is not from the China region. You can find this information at this link.

Like the iPhone, if the model does not match any versions from Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau, then as long as your device supports cellular functionality, it should be compatible with eSIM.
If you’re still unsure, remember to check with your device manufacturer, supplier, or primary carrier to confirm the eSIM functionality.
